Sběř: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Within the cadastral area of Sběř, the Sběřský rybník pond on the Kozojedský potok stream forms a local biocentre with distinctive aquatic and riparian communities in a wet meadow. At the same time, it is the most important body of water in the Sběř planning area. The “Javorka and Cidlina – Sběř” natural monument covers 272.8765 hectares and was first designated on 9 June 2014.

Nature and Landscape

The Sběřský rybník pond is thus associated with several precisely identified natural features: its location on the Kozojedský potok stream, the local biocentre in the cadastral area of Sběř, and the aquatic and riparian communities in a wet meadow. Its classification as the most important body of water in the Sběř planning area stands alongside the designated “Javorka and Cidlina – Sběř” natural monument.

Culture and History

The Church of the Assumption of Our Lady in Velešice was built before 1355. Its presbytery was rebuilt in 1581, and its nave was constructed in 1611 by Jan Baptista Vlach. The church contains historic sandstone and marble epitaphs, including one bearing the mortal remains of Mikuláš Bořek Dohalský z Dohalic. In the Sběř area, it is a registered immovable cultural monument.

Sběř is also home to a registered column with a statue of Saint John of Nepomuk.

Getting Around

The marked Češov–Vysoké Veselí educational trail passes through Sběř and Velešice. IREDO buses operate in the Sběř area; connections to Jičín and Vysoké Veselí are available.

Remains of the railway embankment of the former Smidary–Vysoké Veselí railway line can also be found in Sběř. Trains operated there from 1881 to 1976.

Local Life

The local public library in Sběř regularly supplements and renews its permanent book collection with books from the exchange collection of the Václav Čtvrtek Library in Jičín.

Summer cinema screenings took place in Sběř in 2024 and 2025; another such screening has been announced for 2026.
