Ohnišťany: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Ohnišťany showcases its distinctive features through historical traces, ecclesiastical art, and the route of a cycling trail.

Culture

A pillar bearing a statue of Saint John of Nepomuk in Ohnišťany was declared a cultural monument by the Ministry of Culture in 2005. The Ministry of Culture described the statue as a high-quality work of East Bohemian Baroque sculpture.

The church also preserves several clearly dated testimonies. The painting on the main altar dates from 1871 and was created by the academic painter Alois Sajfrt from Vrchlabí. A comprehensive renovation of the church interior was commissioned in 1910 by the church’s then patron and owner of Podlesí, Kadlík. After the fire, the church in Ohnišťany was rebuilt in its present form.

History

The fortress in Ohnišťany is documented as early as 1318. It had a moat fed by a stream from the former settlement of Nové Ohnišťany. Albrecht z Valdštejna had the manor in Ohnišťany built around 1624–1626.

The former fortress stood on a plot of land that is still called “Zámeček” today. Remains of the walls of the original manor can still be seen at stables No. 102 and No. 116.

Cycling

The 32 km Kladruby nad Labem–Ohnišťany cycling route passes through Ohnišťany. The route runs through a flat landscape with little change in elevation and uses Class III roads as well as paved local roads.

On Saturday, 7 June 2025, Mateřská škola Sedmikráska organized the traditional bike tour “Ohnišťanský pedál”.

Railway

The railway in the Ohnišťany area was built between 1867 and 1870. The railway line runs from Chlumec nad Cidlinou via Stará Paka to Trutnov.
