Vysoký Újezd: Holiday apartments and houses

The Church of St. James the Greater stands prominently in Vysoký Újezd on the summit of a 318 m-high hill; Vysoký Újezd offers views of the Orlické Mountains.

Culture and history

The complex of the Church of St. James the Greater, including its enclosure, is a Romanesque village church complex with a cemetery, enclosed grounds, processional chapels and a mortuary. The complex is also a protected cultural monument. The church dates from the mid-12th century.

North of the Church of St. James the Greater, an ÚAN I-category archaeological area is located in Vysoký Újezd nad Dědinou. Excavations in Vysoký Újezd uncovered a pagan cremation burial site. The painter and professor Karel Meisner (1904–1979) also came from Vysoký Újezd.

A traditional Pálení čarodějnic takes place at the sports ground in Vysoký Újezd.

Routes and transport

A red-marked hiking trail passes through Vysoký Újezd and runs via Třebechovice pod Orebem, Jeníkovice, Vranov, Vodětín and Opočno. Route no. 4166 runs via Ledce, Vysoký Újezd, Jílovice, Libníkovice and Výrava to Smiřice.

Bus services in Vysoký Újezd are integrated into the regional transport system IREDO; there are bus stops in the individual parts of the municipality.
