Nový Ples: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

Nový Ples lies in a gently rolling landscape within the Labe river basin. River terraces and floodplains shape the area at an elevation of approximately 250 to 280 metres and are linked to a history closely connected with Ples and the Josefov Fortress.

Nature

The landscape of Nový Ples includes recognised floodplains, wetlands, ponds and forests as important landscape features. The Novopleský potok stream rises above Nový Ples, drains the built-up area in a north-westerly and westerly direction, and flows into the Labe.

Outside Nový Ples, there are paved paths for pedestrians that provide access to the surrounding landscape. Cycle route 4034 also runs along the northern edge of the area.

History

The historic settlement of Ples arose along the left banks of the Metuje and Labe rivers and the left bank of the Jasenský potok stream. The original centre of Ples was once located in the area of the former Church of St Giles and two fortresses.

Nový Ples was established together with Rasošky on clearings in the Rasoška forest after the residents of the old settlement of Ples lost their farms during the construction of the Josefov Fortress. Around 48 farmers whose former farms, houses and plots in Ples had been abolished were given new building plots and fields there; the new settlements of Nový Ples and Rasošky were established there.

The protected zone of the Josefov Heritage Reserve near Jaroměř extends across the northern part of the Nový Ples area. The Josefov Fortress was completed in 1787 and today offers guided tours of its underground facilities.

Culture and experiences

A bell tower with a crucifix monument stands beside a road in Nový Ples. Near the airport at Nový Ples, there is also a military triangulation point that is one of the three points of the Josefov base. This point and the other two were established in 1863 as part of the triangulation carried out from 1862 to 1898.

A special combination of competition and beer is the Pivní Štreka: it is a team competition for teams of two or more around Nový Ples, covering approximately 24.5 km. Each team carries a 10-litre beer keg, the contents of which must be consumed by the finish. The associated lager, Bakovský Štrekoun, was brewed specifically for the Pivní Štreka and was created through collaboration between the organising team and Bakovský pivovar.
