Machov: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Machov is a recreation, tourism and sports centre in the heart of the Broumov Walls. The town combines cross-border routes, distinctive landscapes, winter sports and historical landmarks.

Geography and Routes

Machov has two tourist border crossings into Poland, which operate year-round. At the same time, Machov is a hub for international hiking, skiing and cycling routes.

Culture and History

The Church of Saint Wenceslas (Kostel sv. Václava) stands on a prominent spur surrounded by the Židovka stream, on the grounds of a former cemetery. It was built in 1675 as a Baroque replacement for an earlier wooden church dating from before 1354.

A Baroque Marian column, “Mariánský barokní sloup”, stands in the square in Machov. It dates from 1761 and was created by Bartoloměj Henrich.

Nature

At house number 26 stands the protected small-leaved memorial lime tree “Šrůtkova lípa”, estimated to be over 500 years old. Its trunk circumference is 688 cm and its height is 24 m. The Borský hřeben ridge offers a view of the nearby panorama of the Krkonoše Mountains.

Hiking and Cycling

The yellow-marked Machov–Bledne-Skaly trail is 4 km long and has almost 400 metres of elevation gain. It crosses the state border into Poland and runs through both Czech and Polish territory. In its final section, the Machov–Bledne-Skaly trail follows stone steps carved into the sandstone of Bor Mountain to the entrance of the rock labyrinth.

The “Běh na Hejšovinu” is a traditional mountain race and part of the Czech Mountain Running Cup. Also associated with Machov is Rallye Sudety, a mountain-bike marathon or mountain-bike race described as extreme.

Winter

In winter, Machov has a large number of groomed cross-country ski trails. A ski lift also operates in Machov during the winter.
