Lovčice: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The Žehuňsko Natura 2000 site covers 8.1196 hectares in the cadastral area of Lovčice u Nového Bydžova. It protects semi-natural dry grasslands and scrub formations on calcareous substrates (Festuco-Brometalia, habitat type 6210), alkaline fens (habitat type 7230), and the stag beetle (Lucanus cervus).

Nature

The Žehuňský rybník – Obora Kněžičky bird area protects populations of the little bittern (Ixobrychus minutus) and the spotted crake (Porzana porzana), as well as their habitats. It is significant as a breeding area for 131 bird species; this figure refers to the period from 1996 to 2002.

Kněžičky is a geotourism attraction featuring fossil-bearing Cretaceous rocks and so-called white slopes. The Kněžičky site can be reached by car without access restrictions; it is possible to drive to within 250 metres of it.

Culture and History

The Church of Saint Bartholomew is located in Lovčice u Nového Bydžova. Lovčice u Nového Bydžova also has a belfry or bell tower, as well as a surrounding wall.

In the centre of Velká náves in Lovčice stands the sculpture “Jesus on the Cross”; a statue of the Virgin Mary is located in its pedestal. The sculpture “Statue of the Virgin Mary with the Infant Jesus” also stands in the centre of Velká náves.

The local cemetery contains the grave of the Soviet Red Army soldier Akan Julimetou, who was born in 1910 and fell in battle on 22 May 1945. A fortress once stood on the hill known as “Na Pekelci”.

Orientation

The municipal library in Lovčice offers children and adults a selection of more than 1,600 volumes. Lovčice obec railway stop is located on the single-track Chlumec nad Cidlinou – Městec Králové – Křinec railway line and is an intermediate stop on a straight section of track. It is about 300 metres from the notional centre of Lovčice.
