Jestřebí Nad Metují: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

Jestřebí Nad Metují is associated with the deep, picturesque valley of Peklo. Numerous weathering features can be found there on rocky outcrops; in 1997, part of the area, covering almost 320 hectares, was designated a nature reserve, particularly to protect numerous animals and insects.

Nature and trails

The Peklo Nature Reserve protects the unregulated river valleys of the Metuje and Olešenka, as well as a diverse landscape with block fields, scree slopes and rock walls. The forests there resemble near-natural forests that have been little influenced by humans and consist mainly of beech and scree forests with fir, elm, lily and mezereon. Peklo in Jestřebí is also designated as a Site of Community Importance within the Natura 2000 network.

An old stone-built path runs along the slope of Peklo and offers views of the local forests. Numerous hiking and cycling trails currently pass through Peklo.

Townscape and history

The first written mention of Jestřebí dates back to 1459. Around 1890, approximately 35 handlooms were operated in the village. Several traditional log houses stand in the centre of Jestřebí.

Architecture and refreshments

Bartoňova útulna is an important architectural monument decorated with figures and other devil motifs. It also offers devil-inspired specialities. The former Pekelec mill has housed a restaurant for excursions since 1912.

On the water

The Bražec–Peklo paddling section has a difficulty rating of WW I as far as Peklo, and WW II from Peklo to Nové Město nad Metují. The second section is suitable for experienced paddlers. The route includes rapids and cascades.
