Otovice U Broumova: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes
Otovice u Broumova combines Baroque buildings, examples of rural architecture and palaeontologically interesting outcrops in the Stěnava Valley. Historic mills, distinctive religious buildings and geological sites create a diverse picture of the village.
Culture
The watermill in Otovice is a single-storey, masonry late-Baroque mill dating from the 1770s and stands beside a millrace that has since been filled in. The Baroque Umlauf Mill is another of Otovice’s valuable historic monuments. The portal of the Umlauf watermill bears the monogram AB and the year 1776.
The Church of St Barbara was built in 1725–1726 according to designs by the Baroque architects Dientzenhofer, father and son. The Baroque building has an oval floor plan with side chapels projecting from the outer walls. A large part of Otovice’s built-up area consists of folk architecture characteristic of this region.
The war memorial in Otovice dates from 1926. It originally commemorated 30 local men who fell on the fronts of the First World War and bears the dedication „Obětem válek“. Otovice is also home to a Marian column dating from 1639.
The ensemble featuring the Column of the Fourteen Holy Helpers, together with statues of saints and angels, is an unusual sculptural work from the second half of the 19th century. On 17 October 2014, the Ministry of Culture declared this ensemble a cultural monument.
