At the Church of the Transfiguration of the Lord in Bílý Újezd, several historical layers come together. A predecessor building is documented as early as 1360; the church is a Gothic sacred building from the 16th century. It has a Baroque high altar dating from 1748, whose essential elements were created by the sculptor František Pacák; it depicts the Transfiguration of the Lord on Mount Tabor. The bell tower by the church is a late Gothic building from the 16th century and is incorporated into the cemetery wall. It has a three-tiered shingle roof and contains a bell cast in 1557 and renovated in 1564.

History

The Zájezdní hostinec was originally built of wood and was rebuilt in stone toward the end of the 16th century, with walls about one metre thick and massive vaulted ceilings. In the second half of the 19th century, its attic housed a ballroom where the first theatrical performances by local amateur actors also took place. The Zájezdní hostinec was one of the oldest inns in the region.

In the cemetery of Bílý Újezd, Mančinka's grave is marked by a slender obelisk made of white Carrara marble. Mančinka is associated with Božena Němcová's novel “The Grandmother”. In the village green of Bílý Újezd, known as “Hlavatka”, stands a statue of Our Lady of Mount Carmel dating from 1870. The renovated Chapel of the Visitation of the Virgin Mary was consecrated on 8 September 1880.

Activities

A public multi-purpose sports facility is available in the centre of Bílý Újezd. At the southern edge of Bílý Újezd, below the ZEAS Podorlicko complex, there is a football pitch. Bílý Újezd is also situated on the Ještětice–Bílý Újezd–Podbřezí cycle route.

Landscape

Hroška lies in a valley through which the Ještětický stream flows from east to west. Hroška is home to a chapel of Saint Wenceslas built in 1887.
