The present-day Kostel sv. Jakuba Většího Church in Zápy was completely rebuilt in 1750 according to plans by Kilian Ignác Dientzenhofer in an ornate Baroque style. Its main altar features Filip Leutner’s painting The Beheading of Saint James from 1769. The Baroque pulpit depicts episodes from the life of Saint James the Elder and the journey of his relics from Palestine to Santiago de Compostela in reliefs.

The complex is protected as a historic monument. The protected elements include the church, the surrounding wall, the statue of Saint John of Nepomuk, the staircase and the enclosed plots of the site. The church complex also includes a massive two-storey stone bell tower from the 16th century, built in a Gothic-Renaissance style. Of the three original bells, two have survived: the large bell of the Virgin Mary and the smaller Evangelist bell. The cemetery contains valuable gravestones from the 18th and the mid-19th centuries; in one corner stands a Baroque mortuary with an ossuary, built around the middle of the 18th century.

On 23 May 2025, the Kostel sv. Jakuba Staršího Church in Zápy was open to visitors from 5 to 9 p.m. as part of the traditional Church Night. As is traditional, visitors could also tour the bell tower and the mortuary.

History

The history of Zápy stretches back more than 950 years and developed from four formerly separate settlements: Zápy, Zípce, Ostrov and Stránka.

The area around this church in Zápy is a significant archaeological site in category ÚAN I, with links to agricultural prehistory, the Knovíz culture, the Middle Ages and the modern era.

Leisure

Visitors to the Teletník Arena can use a garden area, a snack stand, a grandstand, a pergola and a children’s playground, and can also sit there with refreshments outside match times. The arena also has a beach volleyball court and another multifunctional artificial-turf field for nohejbal, volleyball and floorball.

Cycling

The 2.9 km Zeleneč–Lázně Toušeň cycle path project in the cadastral areas of Zápy and Lázně Toušeň was intended to connect the residents of Lázně Toušeň, Zápy and Zeleneč with Prague.
