Vrchotovy Janovice: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Vrchotovy Janovice Chateau originated as a stone castle belonging to the Lords of Janovice and is set in a landscaped park covering 16.5 hectares. Public guided tours of the chateau are offered during opening hours without prior registration.

Culture and History

The Church of Saint Martin is of Romanesque origin and dates from the end of the 12th century. Five tombstones made of red marble are built into the walls on both sides of the presbytery.

Park and Trails

The chateau park is open daily from 08:00 to 19:00 from April to October and from 08:00 to 16:30 from November to March.

The educational trail Po stopách Sidonie Nádherné connects Vrchotovy Janovice with nearby Olbramovice. It has seven stops and is approximately 8.3 kilometres long. The information panels cover the family of the last aristocratic owner of the chateau, Baroness Sidonie Nádherná z Borutína (1885–1950), her significant friends from European cultural life, the history of the region and natural attractions.

Exhibitions

The exhibition “Společnost v Čechách 19. století a Rilke, Kraus a Vrchotovy Janovice” comprises hundreds of original objects, including paintings, clothing, furniture and toys, and presents historical evidence in a contemporary interior.

The exhibition “České zvonařství” is housed in the authentic setting of a former water fortress. It presents a substantial part of the National Museum’s historic bell collection, which comprises more than 150 pieces.
