Vlkov Pod Oškobrhem: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Vlkov pod Oškobrhem is a comparatively well-preserved historic village built around a village green along the main road. An elongated village green forms the basis of the settlement’s structure. In its central section, set back from the main road, stands a vernacular Baroque rural chapel dating from the early 19th century. The chapel and the associated plot are protected.

History

The Oškobrh and Hřebínek archaeological area also extends into the cadastral territory of Vlkov pod Oškobrhem and is designated as a significant archaeological site. The remains of the vanished Church of Saints Peter and Paul are located at the Kostelíček site. Archaeological investigations identified three construction phases at the church dating from the 14th to the 16th century.

The vanished medieval settlement of Oškobrhy is evidenced by archaeological traces that are indistinct today. In the summit area of Oškobrh, a hilltop settlement and a hillfort from several prehistoric periods have also been documented.

Nature

In the wider regional area, the Oškobrh natural monument protects a population of stag beetles, xerothermic steppe grasslands, exposed marl outcrops, and the species dependent on these habitats.

Village Life

A monument to the victims of the First World War stands among mature birch trees in Vlkov pod Oškobrhem. Memorial ceremonies are regularly held at the monument. Local tradition also includes a historic fire engine from 1903, which is regularly used during the local Children’s Day celebrations. A children’s playground is located next to the local pond.

Area

A nine-stop educational trail leads visitors through the area around Oškobrh. Opposite the Motorest, near a monument to the warriors of God, a yellow-marked turnoff leads to a viewpoint below Oškobrh.
