Městec Králové: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Městec Králové emerged around the 13th century as a fortified small town on the Silesian road from Hradec Králové to Prague. The history of the town also includes a local legend according to which Přemysl Otakar II was born here. After his coronation as king, he elevated Městec Králové to the status of a town, granted it numerous privileges of the royal chamber and a lion coat of arms.

History and Architectural Heritage

St. Margaret’s Church was rebuilt as a late Baroque church in 1792–1794 after the town fire of 1792. The building has a single nave and a rectangular layout, a semicircular apse and a prismatic tower on the south side. Mass is regularly celebrated in the parish church of St. Margaret on Sundays at 9:00 a.m.

The town hall of Městec Králové stands in the second part of the market square. It has a square floor plan with a courtyard wing in the centre and was built after a major town fire at the end of the 18th century.

Culture

The cultural and creative centre of Městec Králové houses the town library, an information centre and an exhibition hall belonging to the museum. The Městec Králové Museum is open during the library’s opening hours.

Landscape

Městec Králové lies in a flat, in places slightly hilly landscape. To the south and east, the town is largely bordered by oak woodland complexes. The surrounding area contains protected trees whose age is estimated at more than 100 years.

Activities and Transport

The tourism programme in Městec Králové includes cycling tours in the surrounding area on Sunday afternoons from 1:30 p.m. onwards. Depending on the weather, one-day cycling trips from Městec Králové to the surrounding area are also organised, focusing on natural and cultural monuments. In winter, the local tourism programme includes hikes; when snow conditions are good, cross-country skiing or ice skating is also possible.

Městec Králové railway station is located on line 028 between Chlumec nad Cidlinou and Křinec and is integrated into an integrated transport system.
