The Jan Palach Memorial in Všetaty was created by converting the Palach family’s original home. A new exhibition presents Jan Palach’s time and his act in the context of the events of the 20th century.

History and Culture

The Church of Saints Peter and Paul in Všetaty dates back to 1348. Its smallest bell dates from 1490 and is one of the oldest in Bohemia. The church also contains an richly decorated tin baptismal font cast in 1595.

The monument to Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk stands in the Jana Palacha Gardens on the main street named after Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk. Všetaty railway station also reflects the development of the town: construction began in 1872 and was completed the following year.

Museums and Local Culture

The Florián Firefighting Museum displays firefighting equipment from its beginnings to the present day. It has no fixed opening hours and can be visited by prior arrangement by telephone or email.

The onion farmers’ nativity scene from Všetaty was created in 1943–1944 by the professional woodcarver Danián Pešan. Almost every one of the 19 figures carries an onion, recalling the local tradition of onion cultivation.

Natural Environment

Všetatská černava comprises calcareous fens with Cladium mariscus and species of the Caricion davallianae alliance, as well as particularly protected and rare plant and animal species associated with them.
