Svojetín: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

Svojetín tells its story not only through grand buildings, but also through carefully preserved details: a listed sandstone column, a Baroque chapel, a historic fortification and distinctive traces in the landscape. In addition, there are destinations in the surrounding area and a cycling route connecting Svojetín with Hořovičky and Klečetné.

Culture and history

One particularly unusual monument is the listed Statue of the Virgin Mary with the Child Jesus. In Svojetín, only the prismatic sandstone pedestal on a square base has survived, as the statue of the Madonna and Child was stolen. The pedestal bears an inscription and the date 1714.

The chapel of Saint John of Nepomuk stands on the village green opposite farmstead No. 5, which bears registration number 2688. The almost square stone-and-brick building is rendered white. Its gabled roof, covered with slate tiles, is topped by a hexagonal roof turret without a bell and with an onion-shaped dome. The Baroque chapel was built in 1721–1722 and contains a stone altar and a polychrome, curved statue of the saint.

The Baroque stone column with a statue of Saint Roch is also one of the village’s notable monuments. It is a national cultural monument dating from 1714 and stands on a road outside the built-up area. The statue of Saint Roch was erected in 1714 after the village was spared a plague epidemic.

Further historical traces extend beyond the village centre. The branch church of All Saints in Veclov, Svojetín, has a documented parish history dating back to 1351. Svojetín is also home to the Baroque brick pillar shrine Boží muka dating from around 1725. In the forest area of “Na Starém zámku” lies Tvrziště Dub, a rectangular fortification measuring 100 × 80 metres. It is protected by a rampart to the south and east, additionally by a ditch to the north and by a steep slope to the west.

Landscape and surroundings

The wider area around Svojetín includes several destinations: the ruin Zřícenina Pravda, Džbán Mountain, Loustín Mountain and the church U Svatého Gotharda. The immediate surroundings also include the hill (Ve vinglu) [Měcholupy-Velká Černoc] and the hill Novoveský vrch [Děkov].

In the wider regional area around Svojetín are the monument Svatý Prokop and the ruin Zřícenina Lina. A special natural feature in the village is the tree Dub ve Svojetíně, which was first placed under protection on 15 October 1990.
