Smečno: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes
Smečno Castle dates back to a 15th-century fortress. Its interior is not open to visitors, while the castle park in Smečno is open to the public.
Culture and History
The Sala terrena pavilion stands in the castle park; it was built in 1730 by K. I. Dientzenhofer. The Church of the Most Holy Trinity in Smečno is also part of the historic building fabric: it preserves the presbytery of an originally Gothic structure dating from the 14th century, while the rest was created through a Renaissance reconstruction in 1587.
The Smečno Urban Heritage Conservation Zone has been protected since 10 September 1992. It includes the historic town centre as well as Smečno Castle and the adjacent park. Another testament to the history of the area is the tomb of the Clam-Martinic family in the eastern part of the Smečno cemetery in the Kladno District. The tomb chapel, built in the Empire style in 1832, served as the burial place of the aristocratic Clam-Martinic family, who owned Smečno Castle.
The Sýpka granary in the west of Smečno is also one of the historic buildings. The building, dating from 1700, houses the Artillery Museum, which is accessible by arrangement with the town office. The Vojenský skanzen Smečno also includes a bunker built into the wall of the castle park; it has been restored to its mobilisation state from September 1938.
Music
The organ in Smečno dates from 1587 and is considered the oldest organ in Central Europe. In addition to church services, it is also used for occasional organ concerts.
Nature
The Smečenská rokle Nature Monument is located in the vicinity of Smečno. It is a deeply incised marl canyon 2 km southwest of the town. In the vicinity of Smečno, the nature monument protects a geological profile of the Džbán Cretaceous Plateau as well as calciphilous plant species.
