Vraný: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The Slánská Gate is the preserved eastern gate of the former Vraný gate system. Its Renaissance form was remodelled in the Baroque style and reconstructed in 2004. It is also one of the few surviving examples of a theatrical-style town gate with a side pedestrian passage and is freely accessible to visitors.

Culture and History

The Vraný Township Memorial comprises a room dedicated to the life and work of Svatopluk Čech and another dedicated to the life and work of Jaroslav Věšín. The Memorial also houses a museum with documents and archival materials relating to Vraný. The museum is open to visitors, tourists, schools and kindergartens from the surrounding area as needed and when there is sufficient interest.

A monument to Svatopluk Čech stands in front of Vraný Château. The château was built in 1785–1794 by the Metropolitan Chapter of St. Vitus in Prague as a three-winged Rococo residence with a mansard roof. It currently houses a social care facility; access is restricted.

A statue of Saint John of Nepomuk stands in Vraný’s square and is mentioned as early as 1727. A statue of the Virgin Mary, regarded as a Baroque sculptural work, stands in front of the vicarage. A statue of Saint Wenceslas stands near the town hall.

The Chapel of St. Rosalia was built in 1812 on the site of an older cross. The Chapel of the Most Holy Trinity is a late Baroque niche chapel and was probably built in 1813.

The Baroque Church of the Nativity of St. John the Baptist, dating from the 18th century, stands on elevated ground at the western edge of Vraný. The present Church of St. John the Baptist dates from 1751–1761; a church at this site has been mentioned since 1352.

The local school has a documented, uninterrupted 350-year educational tradition and is one of Vraný’s significant sights.

Nature and Surroundings

Vraný lies in a valley through which two branches of the Vranský stream flow. The Obora mixed forest is located in the vicinity of Vraný and is frequently visited by mushroom pickers.

In the vicinity of Vraný, between Vraný and Peruc, stands a military monument approximately at the site of an Allied troop review held on 19 August 1813.

Orientation

Road II/239 crosses Vraný from east to west; a Class III road runs through the village from north to south. Vrbičany railway station is 2.5 km southwest of Vraný on line 110 between Kralupy nad Vltavou and Louny. Vraný lies outside the network of marked hiking trails.
