Skorkov: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Skorkov combines sacred history with the river and forest landscape along the Jizera. The church complex of Saint John the Baptist is surrounded by a stone enclosure wall; outside the church cemetery, a stone cross stands south of the bell tower. The Jizera and its accompanying vegetation are among the area's landscape values. In addition, there is a wooded, prominent hillside, which is also partly protected as VKP Lipka. Three quarters of Skorkov's cadastral area are forested.

History and Sacred Heritage

The Church of Saint John the Baptist in Skorkov was first mentioned in 1359 and was badly damaged during the Thirty Years' War. In 1698, a bell tower was added to the church; during a renovation in 1873, it was given its present appearance. Next to the church, a charnel house from the former cemetery has been preserved. It contains a Renaissance-style carved altar of the Virgin Mary, and the legible inscription „1666 Susanna Maria Countess von Luestein“ has also been preserved there. The bell tower offers a view of the wooded Jizera Valley.

Nature and Activities

Cycle Route No. 17 connects Skorkov with the neighbouring municipalities. Near Skorkov, the Jizera offers opportunities for swimming in summer. The forests along the Jizera and other forests in the surrounding area are used seasonally for mushroom picking. Water tourism facilities are planned on the Jizera in Skorkov, particularly for safely navigating the Jizera water route with canoes, kayaks and similar sports boats.
