Brázdim: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

In Brázdim, a natural monument, geological history and early human history converge: Kuchyňka Hill is located in the cadastral area of Brázdim in the Praha-východ District. Its designation as a natural monument took effect on 1 June 1997. Kuchyňka is an important geological, palaeontological and archaeological site with fossils from the Mesozoic sea and a settlement site of Aurignacian humans.

Archaeology

The history of Zlatý kopec also stretches far back. The hill lies between the municipalities of Brázdim, Přezletice and Veleň. The discovery at Zlatý kopec is considered the oldest evidence of settlement in Europe. The excavation uncovered the remains of large huts, fire pits, bone waste and discarded tools.

Tradition

The “Staročeské máje” in Brázdim also include maypoles made from birch trees. The tradition involves a musical procession that visits houses in front of which maypoles have been erected, and ends with a dance celebration and a raffle for the large maypole.

Remembrance

A park was created in the area around the monument and the bell tower in Starý Brázdim. Every year on 28 October, celebrations commemorating the founding of the Czechoslovak Republic were held there. The bell tower is a small brick structure that was built after the former wooden bell tower collapsed in 1834.
