Brandýs nad Labem-Stará Boleslav: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Brandýs nad Labem Chateau is an important Renaissance building with preserved sgraffiti. It was a popular summer residence of Emperor Rudolf II and has been designated a national cultural monument since 2017.

Culture and History

In Stará Boleslav, the churches of St. Wenceslas and St. Clement are designated national cultural monuments. Inside St. Clement’s Church, Romanesque wall paintings depicting scenes from the legend of St. Clement have been preserved.

The permanent exhibition in the Arnoldinovský House presents the Brandýs region in a mosaic-like manner. Another historic site is the Brandýská Katovna, which is partially open to the public. The Renaissance building, probably constructed in the 16th century, has preserved sgraffito decoration; the Brandýská Katovna also houses an exhibition on criminal and torture law and the work of the executioner.

The Jewish Cemetery in Brandýs nad Labem was established in 1568 and expanded several times, most recently at the end of the 19th century. The cemetery contains 915 gravestones dating from 1572 to 1942.

Nature

Hluchov, a fragment of a floodplain forest, lies between Brandýs nad Labem and Stará Boleslav. In 1995, Hluchov was designated a specially protected area in the nature monument category, protecting a remnant of floodplain forest with the typical flora and fauna of such forests. Typical floodplain forest communities have been preserved in Hluchov in the floodplains of large rivers.

Proboštský Pond is used as a natural swimming area.

Visits and Experiences

Tickets to Brandýs Chateau include all-day admission to the park with its labyrinths. The Basilica of the Assumption of Our Lady and its ambits are open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. for sightseeing and private prayer during the published operating period in 2026.

The free mobile escape game “Boleslav I. – od vraždy k moci” begins at the Basilica of St. Wenceslas. The Svatý Václav boat carries bicycles and prams; dogs are also allowed on board.
