Jemniště Château was completed in October 1725 based on a design by the Czech architect František Maxmilián Kaňka. It can only be visited as part of a guided tour, which lasts approximately 50 minutes.
Culture and History
The oldest part of St Martin’s Church in Postupice dates from before or around 1250. Only the chancel of the original Gothic church has survived; its east window still features Gothic tracery. The two-nave church has a barrel vault with lunettes. The nave and tower date from a Baroque redesign carried out in 1718.
The so-called Old Château in Jemniště developed from a stone moated castle. This moated castle stood beside a pond that supplied water to its moat.
Park and Landscape
Jemniště Park was laid out around 1725 by František Adam Trauttmansdorff. At the end of the 18th century, Jindřich Rottenhan made significant changes to its design and planting: the original formal French garden was partly redesigned and extended with a naturalistic landscape park.
Today, the park covers 13 hectares and includes a system of three ponds.
Culinary Specialties
Jemniště’s picnic offering includes 120 g of wild game sausage with a gherkin and bread. The sausage is roasted and served cold.
The offering also includes 150 g of house-smoked venison or wild boar ham with horseradish, mustard, a gherkin and bread.
Cycling Route
Cycling route 0072 runs between Český Šternberk and Postupice.
