Chotýšany: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The landmark of Chotýšany is the Church of St. Gall, the earliest written records of which date back to 1350. The single-nave church has a western tower and acquired its present appearance through a renovation in 1884.

Culture and History

In the northern part of the municipality, west of the Church of St. Gall, lies the Chotýšany château complex. The listed complex includes the château, two granaries, a stable, a farm building, a fortress, the enclosing walls, a château park, a garden, and a statue of Saint John of Nepomuk. The château park is one of the protected components of the complex. The château has a Baroque south wing dating from before the mid-18th century and a Neo-Gothic north wing dating from before 1841.

The former Chotýšany fortress had a detached residential building from the late 13th or early 14th century and is located in the grounds of the former farmyard immediately next to the château. After it ceased to serve as a residence, it was first converted into a brewery and later into a distillery. The surviving remains include the ground floor of a rectangular, tower-like residential building and part of a curved defensive wall.

A chapel dedicated to Our Lady of Lourdes was built on the village square in 1933; it was consecrated on 13 August 1933. The stone cross standing there was erected on 28 September 1881 and moved next to the war memorial in 1928. It still stands in this location today.

The wayside shrine by the road to the “U Váňů” mill stands on the road from Chotýšany at the junction leading to the settlement of Onšovice and the former “U Váňů” mill. Chotýšany is also home to a pillar-shaped Boží muka, a small religious monument. The cast-iron cross originally known as “Kuthanův křížek” stood at a crossroads by the “Císař” pond. The cross now known as “Kuthanův křížek” was erected on a stone pedestal around 1990 and stands between two lime trees.

The Friends of Chotýšany association is associated with the Chotýšany festivals, music evenings, and theatre performances. Ivana Syslová primarily makes thrown, glazed, and fired utilitarian ceramics. Her ceramics are mostly glazed white, blue, or green and decorated with incised patterns or small dots; her work can be seen at ceramics markets, fairs, or farmers’ markets in the surrounding area.

In the neighbouring cadastral area towards Benešov lies Jemniště Château, about 3 km from Chotýšany. Its offerings include château and park tours, summer theatre performances for children, and Advent concerts.

Water and Greenery

The New Pond of Chotýšany, formerly called “Židák”, is used for sport fishing. A small park with ornamental trees and shrubs was created around the pond.
