Kamýk Nad Vltavou: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Kamýk nad Vltavou lies in a valley shaped by the Vltava River. Around the town, the landscape alternates between deep forests, meadows and fields – an environment where natural and cultural features are closely connected with the town’s history.

Culture and History

The Kamýcké prášení historical festival is held every year to preserve the old customs and traditions of Kamýk nad Vltavou, regularly at the end of August or beginning of September. It includes a historical procession through the town and contemporary performances near Vrškamýk Castle.

The former Vrškamýk Castle once served as a summer residence for the earliest Bohemian rulers. The ruins of Kamýk Castle, also known as Vrškamýk or Hunec, have visitor facilities and an information trail. Before this, its building foundations were archaeologically investigated and stabilised in 2009 and 2010. Kamýk Castle is continuously open to the public; the observation tower and souvenir sales depend on the operator’s capabilities.

The Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary is one of the most important monuments in Kamýk nad Vltavou. The Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary in Nový Kamýk, which has survived to the present day, retains substantial parts of its original early Gothic form from the 13th century, including a rectangular chancel with a cross vault and massive stone ribs.

Manský dvůr No. 2 is recorded as a large, largely authentically preserved historical complex with partially preserved cellar rooms and two remodelled wings. Its oldest masonry dates from the Late Gothic period; several portals and Gothic plasterwork on the northern perimeter wall have survived. During the Renaissance, the complex was extensively remodelled and received sgraffito decoration and characteristic vaults.

A Jewish cemetery in the surrounding area preserves around 300 Baroque and Neoclassical tombstones as well as a historic mortuary. The Jewish cemetery in the cadastral area of Dražkov served the Jewish communities of Dražkov and Kamýk nad Vltavou. In connection with the Vltavská čára defence line, a total of 64 structures were built here within a very short period.

The Kamýcký Bridge is also part of the local history: its first piers were built in 1887, after which an iron structure was installed on them.

Routes

A green-marked route from Kamýk nad Vltavou reaches the Vrškamýk Castle grounds after approximately 20 minutes. The EuroVelo 7 also passes through Kamýk nad Vltavou. The circular hiking route “Between the Kamýk and Orlík Reservoirs” begins and ends in Kamýk nad Vltavou.

The Vltavská cycling trail is designated as a named stage from Kamýk nad Vltavou to Prague.
