Žerčice has a long history: the settlement is documented in the Chronicle of Cosmas in 1070, which mentions the consecration of a church at the new Žerčiněves estate.

History and Church

St. Nicholas Church in Žerčice has been documented as a parish church since 1384; at that time, it was still made of wood. The present stone structure was built in 1731, and the church was consecrated on 25 November. The protected complex of St. Nicholas Church comprises the church, the enclosure of the former cemetery with its gate, a cast-iron cross and a gravestone.

Chronicles and Local Life

The Baroque composer Samuel Capricornus was born in Žerčice on 21 December 1628. The history and lives of the inhabitants of Žerčice are recorded in twelve municipal chronicles. One of them, created on 27 October 1748, is written on parchment in Schwabacher script and is considered the oldest in the Mladá Boleslav area.

TJ Žerčice organizes a carnival procession every year. Since 2013, the Žerčice Volunteer Fire Brigade has organized the Memoriál Josefa Hůlky firefighting sports competition.

The immediate surroundings of Žerčice include Telib Hill near Březno u Mladé Boleslavi, Na Vinici Hill near Březno u Mladé Boleslavi, U Křížku Hill near Ctiměřice and Křemenice Hill near Lhotky u Mladé Boleslavi.

The Žerčické mohyly archaeological site lies in a forest northwest of Žerčice and consists of two large burial mounds dating from prehistoric or early medieval times. Valdštejn Church is located in the wider region around Žerčice.
