Memorial and Village Life
The monument in Býkev depicts a victorious lion standing on a defeated Habsburg eagle; the names of local residents who fell on the fronts of the First World War are inscribed on its pedestal. During the Second World War, the residents of Býkev hid the Český lev monument underground; after the war, it was raised back onto its pedestal.
Býkev’s traditional Christmas market takes place on the village green on the first weekend of Advent and includes the lighting of the Christmas tree and a performance by children. The Chapel of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary in Jenišovice was built in 1890 and originally belonged to the château.
