Škvorec – Castle History, Nature and Trails

On 13 December 1497, Jan Škvorecký z Klinštejna received a privilege from King Vladislaus II of Bohemia and Hungary that elevated Škvorec to a market town and permitted weekly markets every Friday.

Culture and Architectural History

The protected castle complex of Škvorec comprises the so-called Old Castle, the so-called New Castle, the former farmyard, the enclosing wall with gates, the castle park and the areas of the enclosed grounds.

The so-called New Castle is a single-storey, elongated building with a thirteen-axis wing and an adjoining chapel. A broad connecting wing links it to the corner of the Old Castle.

The extensive castle complex stretches from the northwestern part of the municipality into its centre. The two main buildings, the so-called Old Castle and the so-called New Castle, form the western side of the large lower square opposite the church.

The late Baroque Church of Saint Anne in Škvorec was built between 1759 and 1767. It borders a cemetery with a cemetery chapel or mortuary chapel.

In the Czech Central Register of Immovable Cultural Monuments, the church is listed under number 36016/2–2170.

Nature

Višnovka Nature Park was created from a historic orchard.

The former, now flooded Lom Na plachtě quarry near Třebohostice is protected as a nature monument covering an area of 0.7918 hectares; since 1990, this nature monument has protected granite outcrops with flooded extraction depressions there.

Trails and Religious Focus

In the context of the host municipality, the Insect Trail runs from Třebohostice to Zlatá and back. The route is approximately 3 km long and comprises 10 stations.

From Škvorec, you can join cycle paths in the direction of Úvaly; the paved paths are also suitable for inline skating.

A Svatoanenská pouť announced in Škvorec on the occasion of the Feast of Saint Anne began with a Mass in the Church of Saint Anne; a pilgrimage celebration was then scheduled to take place at the U Zálabských inn.
