Křenek lies on the right bank of the Elbe in the northern part of the Praha-východ District. At the northern edge of the village lies Křenecké jezero, on the border with the neighbouring municipality of Ovčáry.

Water Landscape and Trails

Křenecké jezero was created at the site of the former Na Homolce hill through the extraction of gravel and sand from a former quarry between 1958 and 1963. It serves as a natural bathing area and has facilities including a car campsite and sports facilities.

The international Labská stezka No. 2 runs along the banks of the Elbe in Křenek. Cycling route 0039 also passes through Křenek. The flat landscape, with a mosaic of vegetation along former Elbe meanders, is suitable for hiking and cycling.

History and Village Character

The preserved settlement structure of Křenek has medieval origins. The original village developed around a round village green that has been well preserved to this day.

Křenek was founded at a ford across the Elbe, probably originally as a group of farmsteads on a promontory between the river meanders. In 1895, an independent school was established in Křenek in its own building. The oldest surviving crosses in Křenek date from 1830.

Memorial Sites and Municipal History

The memorial to those who fell in the war in Křenek dates from 1924 and was created by the sculptor Emanuel Klose from Lysá nad Labem.

The former school building was restored in 1998 and converted into the municipal pub Obecní hospoda, which was ceremonially opened on 1 July 1999.

Agriculture and Nature

Farma Janouškovi is a family-run farm in the municipality of Křenek in the Polabí region and primarily grows vegetables and herbs. The farm offers vegetables, fruit and herbs from its range.

The European Natura 2000 site Polabí u Kostelce is associated with the municipalities of Křenek and Záryby.
