Gabonjin: Apartments and Holiday Homes

Gabonjin is an older settlement in the Dobrinj area, documented since the 14th century. The village lies below Sveti Petar Hill and its church; the Glagolitic Avenue leading to this church is considered a distinctive cultural feature.

Culture

Small souvenirs are created in Gabonjin’s Ethno Workshop on wooden and stone surfaces decorated with carved Glagolitic letters. The 200-metre-long Glagolitic Avenue (Put glagoljaša) can be followed from Gabonjin towards St. Peter’s Church and serves as an educational experience relating to the Glagolitic script.

The Glagolitic Park in Gabonjin was opened in 2010 as an initiative of the local community to preserve and showcase the Glagolitic script and its historical era. It contains sixteen stone sculptures. These depict significant moments in local and national history, as well as people associated with the Glagolitic tradition. The Church of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, built in the mid-20th century, also stands in the village centre.

Hiking and Cycling

The 13.9-kilometre circular hiking trail “Tracing the Legends and Abandoned Villages of the Dobrinj Area” leads to the Glagolitic Script Park in Gabonjin. A hiking trail near Gabonjin also includes a Glagolitic Path featuring 37 Glagolitic letters.

The B-426 is 39.4 kilometres long. It is a moderately difficult road route, paved and following an existing road. As the road cycling route “Through the heart of Krk Island”, the B-426 passes through Gabonjin and starts and ends at the Krk Sports Centre.
