Trnovo is located at an altitude of 850 metres in the hilly landscapes of Treskavica and Jahorina. 67% of the area of the municipality of Trnovo is covered by forests, which contribute, among other things, to the development of tourism. Jahorina also extends into the municipality: 30% of Jahorina belongs to the municipality of Trnovo. Nature and trails

Treskavica has five glacial lakes, located above 1,500 metres and regarded as a hiking attraction. Hiking trails in the mountains connect summits, lakes, springs and viewpoints. Trails of varying difficulty enable hiking there all year round. The most popular starting point for hikes on Treskavica is in Trnovo. From Trnovo, local roads lead to the mountain trails and to the starting points for visiting the lakes and summits of Treskavica.

The natural phenomena within the municipality of Trnovo include the Kazani na Željeznici. They are a destination for excursions, hiking, photography and peaceful time in nature. From Trnovo, the Kazani na Željeznici can be reached via a local road along the Željeznica River; the final section is covered on foot. The Trnovo hunting ground belongs to the Sarajevo-Romanija mountainous hunting region.

Summer and winter in the mountain landscape

During the summer months, the Trnovo six-seater lift serves as a starting point for walks, hikes, cycling tours and exploring the mountain landscape. In winter, the Trnovo six-seater lift provides access to prepared ski slopes and other winter sports activities. This means that different seasons each offer their own central activities, without losing the connection to the mountain landscape.

A distinctive route is named “Stazama Belog vuka”. It leads from Rajski Do via the Sustavac mountain hut to the summit of Kozljen. The name is also used for an event: the “Stazama Belog vuka” memorial hike was organised for the fifth time.

Culture and regional tradition

The Church of the Holy Great Martyr George in Trnovo was built in 1886. The Trnovo Mosque was built in 1565 by its founder and waqf, Muslihuddin. Both buildings represent different historical connections of the town and are among the named cultural points of reference in Trnovo.

The Petrovdanski Dani Kulture take place every year in June and July on the occasion of Trnovo Municipality Day. The traditional Petrovdanske sports games are part of the Petrovdanske celebrations in Trnovo. At the Kotlić Festival, visitors can experience the preparation of traditional dishes at the Keki picnic site in Rajski Do. A seasonal speciality of the Trnovo region is hand-picked wild blueberries from Treskavica and Jahorina.
