Central Bosnia Canton/Central Bosnia is very hilly and mountainous, ranging from 300 to 1,922 metres in elevation. The canton’s largest rivers are the Vrbas and Lašva.

Nature

Prokoško jezero is a natural lake on Mount Vranica at an elevation of 1,636 metres. In 2005, the Assembly of Central Bosnia Canton/Central Bosnia declared the lake a natural monument. It is also a natural glacial lake with an endemic species of newt.

There are several smaller and two larger waterfalls at Kozica, ranging from 5 to 20 metres in height; Kozica is located 11 kilometres from Fojnica.

Culture

The Memorijalni muzej Rodna kuća Ive Andrića features a permanent exhibition on the life and literary work of Ivo Andrić.

The Stari grad fortress was built in the second half of the 14th century or the first half of the 15th century and is open to visitors year-round. Permanent exhibitions are presented in the Kula and Baruthana of Stari grad Fortress.

The Guča Gora Franciscan Museum comprises five permanent exhibitions. These include collections on ethnology, archaeology, sacred art and numismatics, as well as a valuable collection of old books and manuscripts.

The UNESCO World Heritage Site of Stećci comprises medieval tombstones dating from the 12th to the 16th century, featuring characteristic decorative motifs and inscriptions.

The Jajce trout is recommended for tasting as a characteristic speciality of Jajce. The Catacombs of Jajce are an underground church or burial site carved into the natural rock. The Pliva Waterfall is located in the centre of Jajce, and Jajce Fortress is part of Jajce’s medieval town complex.

Activities

Reumal Fojnica is a modern, specialised facility for rehabilitation, recreation, active leisure and planned sporting activities.

Vlašić Ski Centre offers night skiing. Visitors can go for a walk in the Plava Voda area of Travnik.

The Staza stare pruge – Old Rail Trail route runs through the five municipalities of Busovača, Vitez, Travnik, Donji Vakuf and Jajce in Central Bosnia.
