The Vrbas crosses the municipality of Gornji Vakuf-Uskoplje over a length of 35 kilometers. At the foot of Vranica, there are three lakes near the village of Ždrimci, collectively known as the Ždrimačka Lakes. Other named natural sites include several waterfalls.
Nature
The Crnodolski Waterfall, also known as Ždrimački Waterfall, is 29 meters high. The municipality of Gornji Vakuf-Uskoplje is also home to Sikirski Waterfall, formed by fault movements and located on the stream of the same name. Ljuti slap forms during heavy rain and after the snowmelt on the slopes of the Pode elevation in the Desna area.
In the municipality, Ždrimački Waterfall can be reached via a paved road through Ždrimci and then by a two-kilometer gravel road, along which visitors can continue on foot.
Hiking and activities
The M-16.2 main road between Banja Luka and Mostar crosses the municipality of Gornji Vakuf-Uskoplje for approximately 18 kilometers. Hikers from Gornji Vakuf and an enthusiastic mountain biker are active on Vranica. In the vicinity of Gornji Vakuf, the SRC Raduša offers ski equipment rental and ski instructors.
Culture and history
The Gafića Tower, also known as Sahat kula, has been under state protection since 1950 and dates from around 1610. It is located in Gornja mahala, not far from Gafića duna and the Gafića Mosque. The Džamija Mehmed-beg Stočanin is dated to the construction period of 1592/1593. Gornji Vakuf developed from the area around Džemat Mehmed-beg Stočanin.
The medieval Maculje necropolis is also one of the municipality's historic sites; it consists of 101 stećak tombstones. The Ljubunčića (Teskeredžića) Tower in Voljice, in the municipality of Gornji Vakuf-Uskoplje, is at risk due to years of insufficient maintenance and damage; the building is in danger of collapse.
Local life and events
The summer cottages in Luka have areas for storing dairy products, mostly cheese. During the Festival of Ilahije and Kaside, tourist tours of Gornji Vakuf are offered to the choirs and soloists during breaks between rehearsals and lunch. The children's choir event “Zlatna harfa 2024” of the parishes of Central Bosnia took place on June 8, 2024, at the Parish of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Uskoplje.
