History
The Castillico de Palaz preserves the remains of a former castle and its keep; the site belonged to a former Moorish settlement called Palaz. The Iglesia Parroquial Ntra. Sra. de la Asunción was built from 1636 onwards. According to older accounts, it stands on the remains of a mosque built between the 11th and 12th centuries and an Arab square.
The Museo Almazara displays traditional machines that were used for cold-pressing olive oil. A hermitage in Teresa de Cofrentes was blessed on 3 February 1702 and leads to the town cemetery.
Cycling Tours
The Ruta de los Albares/Nacimiento is an easy, family-friendly cycling tour with little incline through olive and almond groves to the Castillico de Palaz. The Subida a Caroche/Bayart offers a different route profile: this moderately difficult cycling tour covers 30 to 40 kilometres, takes around six hours and combines paved roads with forestry tracks.
The information on difficulty level, route length, duration and route type helps you compare the two tours according to your preferred pace for the day.
