Faura’s traditional historic centre has its origins in the Arab period. When comparing holiday accommodation in Faura, you can view travel dates, room category and cancellation policies side by side on the listing pages. Which details you give greater weight to depends on your own travel plan and not on a predefined order. When planning your visit, you can also prioritise different aspects openly instead of incorporating them into a fixed programme.
Culture and Architectural History
The Palace of the Lordship of the Barony-County of Faura was built as a residence in the 15th century and originally served as a watchtower. As a Gothic building, it preserves the coat of arms of the Vilarrasa family on its façade.
The Església dels Sants Joans (Santos Juanes Church) was rebuilt in the 18th century over a 16th-century church. Its floor plan is shaped like a Latin cross, with three naves and six chapels. The church contains 28 frescoes from the 18th century by Joaquim Pérez and Josep Camarón Bonanad.
The Santa Bárbara Hermitage dates from 1716. Faura’s old municipal washhouse is very well preserved. You can consider the historical features separately when planning: architectural history, sacred design and preserved everyday structures represent different focal points, without any particular order being prescribed.
Landscape and Trails
Traditional hydraulic infrastructure such as partidores and sistars is still in use in Faura. Faura’s landscape is criss-crossed by irrigation channels.
Faura has hiking and cycling trails, as well as routes leading to Pico de los Cuervos. You can walk among Faura’s fields and discover the traditional irrigation channels along the way. The route to Pico de los Cuervos can begin at the Santa Bárbara Hermitage.
The Santa Bárbara Hermitage can be reached via the Calvary. Pico de los Cuervos offers panoramic views of the Mediterranean and the entire coastal plain. When planning your routes, you can consider walks among the fields, hiking and cycling routes, and the panoramic view from Pico de los Cuervos as different focal points.
Festivals and Market
The Festes d’Agost in Faura are celebrated in honour of the Mare de Déu d’Agost. The Festes include activities such as Bous al Carrer, Pilota, traditional dances, fireworks and children’s games.
The Feria de Faura takes place on 4 December, the feast day of Saint Barbara. Handcrafted and gastronomic products are sold at the Feria. You can incorporate the event dates mentioned into your own plans independently of the trails and buildings.
