Discover Navarrés: Sacred Art, Rock Art and Waterways
Navarrés can be discovered through sacred art, medieval traces and waterside locations. The Iglesia Parroquial de la Asunción de Nuestra Señora is an 18th-century church featuring Baroque and Rococo artistic elements. Perched on a hill, the Ermita del Santísimo Cristo de la Salud offers expansive views over Navarrés.
Culture and History
The collection at the Museo Parroquial de la Asunción de Ntra. Sra. de Navarrés includes goldsmith's work, including a Lignum Crucis, an 18th-century liturgical vestment and, as its centrepiece, a polychrome wood carving of Ntra. del Rosario from the 17th century. The museum also displays liturgical objects that, over time, served worship in the parish of Navarrés.
The Castillo de Navarrés is an example of medieval architecture; its ruins dominate the horizon. The Abrigo del Garrofero is one of the caves and rock shelters in Navarrés containing ancient rock paintings; this rock art is described as a UNESCO World Heritage site. La Ereta del Pedregal is considered one of Spain's most significant Eneolithic archaeological sites.
The spring known as the “Fuente de los 24 chorros” was built between 1591 and 1597 and later moved to the Plaza del Bario. The Feria de Navarrés also combines a fixed date with local tradition: it takes place from 8 to 12 October in honour of Cristo de la Salud.
Trails and Water
A trail near Los Chorradores leads to Fuente Clara, a viewpoint and the Los Chorradores waterfall. The surrounding area also has a bathing spot, a weir and the Área Recreativa de la Fuente de la Higuera picnic area.
At Laguna de Playamonte there are public toilets and picnic areas; particularly during the summer months, a lifeguard service is available there.
When planning personally, you can deliberately consider historical sites, trails and water, fixed event dates, and regional dishes side by side. A cultural focus reads differently from a plan centred around waterside locations and landscapes.
Regional Cuisine
Traditional Navarrés cuisine includes Mojete arriero, Gachamiga, Gazpacho, Arroz al horno, Puchero and artisanally produced sausages. Traditional sweet dishes include Torta de chicharrones, Tortafinas, Turrón de rosas and Brazo de gitano.
