Petrés lies on the plain in front of the Calderona and Espadán mountain ranges. One of the town’s notable buildings is the Casa-Castillo del Barón de Petrés, which is classified as a protected monument of Valencian cultural heritage. The Iglesia Parroquial de San Jaime Apóstol dates back to the 18th century and has a tower with four bells.
Culture
Further historical traces can be found at C/ Concepció 8: The old medieval oven belonged to the lord of Petrés, and the coat of arms of the Aguiló family can be seen on the façade. The Castle of Petrés is a square fortified palace with a crenellated tower. Remains of a Gothic staircase in the Catalan style, that is, Mediterranean Gothic, have been preserved in the building.
L’Aixeta is a medieval cistern that now serves as an exhibition venue and houses an ethnological museum. The Pou is also a medieval cistern and served as the palace’s well. The Almazara of Petrés is a historic building. L’Hort Tancat is a structure in the Huerta that has been documented since the 17th century and may have been built in the 15th or 16th century. The Horno Viejo was in use until the 20th century.
