Cofrentes: Júcar, Gorges and Thermal Baths

Cofrentes is part of the Ruta fluvial del Júcar, a boat trip between Cofrentes and Cortes de Pallás. A boat purchased by the Ayuntamiento de Cofrentes can accommodate 50 passengers and covers the 14 km of the Cortes reservoir in just over an hour. The trip begins at the former Embarcaderos dam, which has a jetty, parking spaces, a covered waiting and rest area, and an information and ticket office.

Nature and outdoor activities

The landscapes of Cofrentes include the Cañones del Júcar. Here, the river runs between high, sheer rock walls; the landscape can be explored by boat or on hiking trails. Cerro de Agras is a volcanic site open to visitors and is considered the only geologically young volcano in the Comunitat Valenciana.

Cofrentes’s network of trails covers a total of 57 km through the varied landscapes of Monte Alcola, along the Cabriel, at the former mining site of the Cerro de Agras volcano and around the Hervideros de Cofrentes thermal baths. The Centro BTT expands the selection of routes with nine signposted trails through Cofrentes and nearby towns; its routes cover a total of approximately 259 km.

Mono-rafting descents as well as guided cycling and hiking tours are offered on the Cabriel. The Tren Turístico de Cofrentes follows the course of the Cabriel and allows visitors to explore natural attractions in the municipality and its surroundings. There are also birdwatching routes, particularly along the banks of the Cabriel and the Júcar.

Culture and history

The Parroquia de San José was built in 1621 on the former site of the Cofrentes mosque. After the expulsion of the Moriscos at the beginning of the 17th century, Pedro Centelles de Borja converted the Castillo de Cofrentes into a palatial residence.

The Cueva de Santa Ana was an oil press where agricultural produce and products from home slaughtering were stored. During the May festivities, Cofrentes celebrates the Maderada, commemorating the work of lumberjacks between the 14th and 18th centuries.

The Ruta urbana through Cofrentes is suitable for all visitor groups and leads to the town’s most representative cultural, heritage and historical sites.
