Vall d’Alba – Culture, Water Management and Walking Routes

Vall d’Alba is ideal for rural tourism and walks. The Iglesia Parroquial de San Juan Bautista was built in 1902 and houses valuable cedarwood altarpieces. The Museo Etnológico displays farming tools, kitchen utensils, furniture, household textiles and clothing donated by local residents. The museum is located in a centuries-old, extensively remodelled building; its renovation restored one of the town’s most historic homes.

Water Management and Rural Heritage

The Pozo de la Senieta and norias de la Senieta complex is an ethnological water heritage site featuring a traditional stone well, two historic waterwheels and their basins. The Noria del Mas del Gallo is a restored example of water-management architecture with a basin, a washing area and an irrigation canal system. The Molino de la Rambla, also known as Molino de la Pelachana, was built in 1850 beside the Rambla de la Viuda and features a spectacular irrigation canal carved into the rock, as well as a basin adapted to the terrain.

The Sènia del Rosso is a restored waterwheel incorporated into the Route de les Sènies. The Ruta de les Sènies showcases Vall d’Alba’s agricultural heritage of traditional water lifting.

Landscape

The Ermita de San Cristóbal is located in an ecologically remarkable landscape and offers views across Vall d’Alba. The Ruta de les Muntanyes de la Vall d’Alba includes a viewpoint at the Ermita de San Cristòfol overlooking Vall d’Alba. Pou de Beca is a natural and recreational area situated between mountains, with a spring and washing areas.

Routes

The Ruta dels Aljubs is a signposted 6.7-kilometre route with a low level of difficulty. Along the Ruta dels Aljubs, visitors can see numerous cisterns of Muslim origin that were used by different cultures to access groundwater; water can be drawn by hand from one of them. The Ruta de les Muntanyes de la Vall d’Alba is a signposted 16.4-kilometre route with a moderate level of difficulty. The Ruta del Arte is a 1.12-kilometre route through the town with a low level of difficulty, focusing on local sights from the 20th and 21st centuries.
