Discover Onda: Historic Centre, Tile Museum and Sichar Reservoir

Onda begins in the historic centre with a protected urban landscape: it is protected as a historic-artistic ensemble and as a cultural asset of particular interest. Numerous narrow streets and squares convey the town’s medieval character as well as its civil, religious and military heritage.

Culture and history

The Torre de la Presó includes a reconstructed prison cell from the 17th and 18th centuries, where visitors can learn about the detention conditions of the time. As a historic prison tower, the Torre de la Presó retains its character; it is one of the few surviving examples of this building typology in the Valencian Community and is considered an exceptional example there.

The Fira d’Onda includes religious, cultural, bull-related and entertainment events, takes place in Onda’s historic centre and attracts thousands of people every year. A pilgrimage to the Santísimo Salvador hermitage takes place every 5 August. For your planning, an individual festival date, a historic building and the event programme can be considered independently of one another.

Museum and local history

Onda’s Tile Museum has around 80,000 objects dating from the Classical period to the present day; these include tile collections from the 19th and 20th centuries, industrial-ethnological objects and documentary series from more recent times.

The entrance tunnel of the Cova de l'Algepsar houses a permanent exhibition about events in local history.

Nature and activity

Sichar Reservoir is a natural area within the municipality of Onda where walks and mountain-bike tours are possible. Kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding are also possible at Sichar Reservoir. Walking, cycling, kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding represent different types of activity; you can compare these terms separately alongside one another when planning your day.

Hiking

The PR-CV 360 route “Onda – Las Pirámides – Onda” is a difficult hiking route covering 16.8 kilometres, with a stated walking time of 4 hours and 30 minutes. Route length, difficulty level and stated walking time provide three separate planning details; which of these you give greater weight to remains a matter of your personal plans for the day.

For your personal planning, you can weigh the different topics independently of one another. Not every focus needs to be given the same amount of space, and individual interests can be considered separately. This open selection keeps the topics clear without combining them into a binding itinerary. You decide for yourself which aspects to emphasise and which areas to consider alongside one another initially. Your plans for the day remain flexible, without the variety having to become a fixed programme.
