Torre la Sal between Coast, Culture and Nature

History

The maritime settlement of Torre la Sal developed on the coast into an important trading centre. In its early phases, there were Phoenician imports; during the later phases of the Iberian period, Italic products were redistributed.

In the area surrounding the maritime settlement of Torre la Sal, the origins of human settlement date back to the Neolithic period. The Torre de la Sal is a watchtower with medieval architecture. In 2002, the Torre de la Sal was declared an Asset of Cultural Interest (Bien de Interés Cultural, BIC).

Coast

Playa Torre de la Sal is approximately 2 km long and consists of a mixture of sand and pebbles. It is suitable for a wide variety of water sports. It can be reached by car via the N-340 or by bus. Playa Torre de la Sal has barrier-free access, toilets, showers and access walkways.

Nature

The visitor centre of Prat de Cabanes-Torreblanca Natural Park is located next to the Torre de la Sal aquaculture institute. From Ribera de Cabanes, the visitor centre can be reached via a turn-off near kilometre 1000 of the N-340, in the direction of the Torre la Sal aquaculture institute. Route 1 in Prat de Cabanes-Torreblanca Natural Park begins at Torre la Sal. Guided tours of the Torre de la Sal are offered on Fridays at 6:30 p.m. at the Cabanes–Torre la Sal Tourist Information Office.

Routes

The signposted Ruta de las Torres cycling loop is 15 km long and includes the Torre la Sal as well as other medieval watchtowers. From Torre la Sal, a route leads on foot or by bicycle to the beaches of the neighbouring municipality of Torreblanca. The red Torre de la Sal route is 3.5 km long and has a low difficulty level. Characteristic birds can be observed along the red Torre de la Sal route. It runs along the coast to a pebble barrier.

A signposted path near Torre la Sal runs parallel to the coast towards Torrenostra, entering the wetland between salt marshes on its final section, offering views of the original pebble barrier along the coast and leading to a flora micro-reserve.
