Discover Sarratella: Holiday Apartments, Sacred Buildings and Rock Art
Sarratella invites visitors to read the landscape through paths and visible traces of culture. Between hiking, sacred architecture, rock art and an old oven, there are different ways to approach a visit. The individual sites reveal very different scales – from a larger complex to the floor plan of a sacred building.
Hiking and Landscape
The PR-CV 394 Ruta de l'Ermita has a theoretical walking time of 2 hours and 45 minutes and involves an ascent of 305 metres. The route begins at Plaça Major; Les Fontanelles, a natural area, is considered the starting area. From La Serratella, routes lead to a thousand-year-old yew tree; one route through the municipality of La Serratella leads to this tree, which is considered a monumental tree in a small area of original vegetation. For planning the day, the theoretical duration, ascent and natural destination can be considered as separate points of reference.
Culture and Sacred Architecture
The Ermita de San Juan Nepomuceno is a complex comprising a chapel, a hermit's house, a council room, a stable and animal enclosures. The hermitage has three naves, with the central nave wider than the side naves. It was restored in 1985 with contributions from the residents of Sarratella; the residents also take care of its cleaning and maintenance.
The exterior of the Ermita de San Miguel follows neoclassical architectural principles. Its rectangular floor plan has a single nave, four bays and a presbytery. The ecclesiastical treasury includes a velvet Renaissance cloak for the communion of the sick. The layout of the complex and the detailed description of the churches make different scales visible: an ensemble, an interior space, a floor plan and a single object.
A holiday apartment in Sarratella can be assessed in the listing details based on travel dates, room category and cancellation conditions. For trip planning, the topics of hiking, sacred buildings, rock art and the route to the yew tree serve as separate points of reference.
Rock Art and Ancient Traces
At the Abrigo del Barranco de l’Espigolar, engraved signs, deer and other figures are arranged across eight rock-art panels. There are also schematic human figures and painted depictions of Levantine art. Access to the vertical rock face of the Abrigo del Barranco de l’Espigolar is very difficult; a visit is recommended only for experienced people.
The old oven of La Serratella dates from the Middle Ages. For planning purposes, you can distinguish between rock art, sacred buildings and the medieval oven as different cultural themes. In the shelter, engraved and painted depictions take centre stage. The old oven represents its own historical point of reference. Together with the sacred buildings, this results in clearly distinct cultural focal points.
