The Poble Vell of Xert features narrow streets, arcaded squares and buildings dating from the 13th century. Those exploring the town can consider the townscape, landscape, culture and activities as different focuses when planning their trip. The various themes can be organised according to historical interest, exercise and regional cuisine.
Culture and townscape
The Iglesia Parroquial de la Asunción was built at the end of the 13th century and remodelled in the 17th century by the architect Esteve Ganaut. Its bell-shaped side façade from the 15th century has an archivolt.
The Palacio de los Condes de Pestagua was built and owned by the Felié family; one branch of the family settled in Xert in the 17th century. The building consists of two parts: one known as the “casa del metge García” and a monumental, more elaborate part that belongs to the San Marcos agricultural cooperative.
In the immediate vicinity of Xert is the preserved complex of the Ermitorio de San Pedro y San Marcos de la Barcella, with a church, the hermit's dwelling, the hostel's porch and a watchtower.
Landscape and trails
The landscape around Xert includes extensive areas of dry farming, often extending to terraced slopes beside the molas. Hiking trails cross the Mola Murada, where there is an archaeological site.
Active pursuits
La Moleta is a destination for via ferrata enthusiasts. The climbing areas around Xert offer more than 90 climbing routes to choose from. In the caves of Xert, including Avenc de Comanegra, cavers can pursue their activity.
The circular route through the Muelas de Xert is 11.79 km long, has an elevation gain of 394 m and starts and ends at the Plaza del Ayuntamiento. The route through the Muelas de Xert is designated for hiking, cycle touring and mountain biking (BTT). Route length, elevation gain and the designated types of activity provide different points of reference for personal day planning. The figures describe the scope of the circular route, while the stated types of activity name its designated uses. This makes it possible to read route distance and activity as separate details.
40.000 aventures is based in Xert and specialises in adventure sports.
Regional cuisine
Traditional dishes from Xert include the meat dish “al tombet”, “rotllets d'aiguardent” and “quallada”. Among the local products from Xert highlighted for visitors, cheese, cognac and olive oils take centre stage.
For a holiday apartment in Xert, travel dates, room category and cancellation conditions can be considered side by side as factual key details. They define the desired booking parameters. In terms of content, different focuses remain clearly separate: the historic townscape and history, trails and exercise, climbing and caving destinations, and regional cuisine. The accommodation details and the themes of the town thus remain clearly distinct.
