Hiking and nature

The Ruta Monte Calvario is an almost 2 km circular hike of moderate difficulty with an elevation gain of 102 m. The different trail formats can be clearly distinguished from one another for your planning. The Ruta del Agua begins at Avenida de la Tejería. A cave along this route is more than 1 km long and has three galleries. In summer, swimming is possible in the natural pools along the Ruta del Agua.

Montán's natural surroundings include numerous springs and fountains, as well as densely vegetated gorges with waterfalls and swimming pools. There are more than thirty fountains in and around Montán. Fuente de la Tejería is located approximately 600 m from Montán and has a recreational area with stone tables and stone benches, a barbecue area and a shelter with a stone table inside. A viewpoint offers views of the 1,813 m-high Peñagolosa massif.

Culture and history

At the Monte Calvario archaeological site, ceramics were recovered that have been dated to the 7th to 6th century BC. The Iglesia Parroquial San Bernardo Abad was completed in 1735 and has a single-nave layout with lavish Churrigueresque or late Baroque acanthus decoration.

The Convento de los Padres Servitas de San Miguel y Santa Ana is an example of post-Baroque and pre-academic architecture. The Acueducto de la Teja is a dry-stone structure with three arches that carried water across the gorge to irrigate the fields there.

Wine and local produce

The Sacacubos celebration now takes place in October and includes a wine tasting. At the Museo Enológico, visitors learn about the art of grape harvesting and winemaking. An oil classified as extra virgin is produced in Montán.
