La Llosa – Nature, Beaches and Historical Traces

La Llosa reveals its distinctive coastal character at Playa de La Llosa: the unspoilt beach is free of buildings, is accompanied by a wooden promenade and marked by an illuminated bridge over the La Gola channel.

Nature

Near the town lies La Marjal, a wetland with typical wetland vegetation and numerous waterbirds. The lagoons and wetlands of La Llosa provide refuge for resident, breeding and migratory waterbirds.

The Camí de Serratella connects the various points along the coast of Castelló Sud through the wetland landscape and leads to the Marjal de La Llosa and Playa de La Llosa, where numerous seabirds from different families can be observed. For personal planning, nature, culture, trails and activities can be weighted separately; the coast, wetlands and historic sites represent different focal points.

History and Culture

La Llosa developed from an old Arab alquería. The townscape features the parish church of El Salvador, which dates from the 17th century and displays Gothic and Baroque characteristics, including a ribbed vault and round arches. It can be visited during worship services.

In the El Carcau area, La Fonteta is a monument that was initially used as a watering place for livestock and later as a washing place over the course of its history. Remains of an old mill have been preserved next to the Font del Carcau; the area was transformed into a park, where parts of the former wall are still visible. The site reflects two former everyday functions before it was converted into a park; the wall and mill remains make this historical development visible in the landscape.

Font Redona, also known as Font de La Llosa, is a natural spring and a symbol for the local population; its water was formerly used to irrigate parts of La Llosa and neighbouring Xilxes. The festivities in honour of San Vicente Ferrer begin on the Tuesday after Easter and include bull demonstrations.

Getting Around

La Llosa can be reached via the N-340, the A-7 motorway and the railway network of the Castellón–Valencia Cercanías service. The Font del Carcau area has facilities for children and paella barbecue areas.

La Llosa’s coastal airfield has a flight school; private flights can be arranged. Els Pouets is a natural spring in the agricultural area between La Llosa and Xilxes that has recently been restored.
