Argelita is located inland in the Alto Mijares comarca in Castellón and is recommended for rural and nature tourism, as well as for trails and routes.
When comparing holiday apartments in Argelita, you can compare travel dates, apartment or room categories and cancellation policies on the listing pages. For your own planning, you can combine this information with your preferred balance of trails, water and culture. The different trail lengths, walking times and stage formats offer different planning options without requiring a fixed daily schedule.
Trails and landscape
The SL-CV91 "Climb to La Muela" hiking trail is 3,668 metres long and takes approximately 1 hour and 20 minutes; it connects Argelita with Buey Negro Castle. For trail running, there is the 17-kilometre Canaleta Trail with 1,028 metres of elevation gain. The route mainly follows technically demanding trails in Alto Mijares.
The GR-333 long-distance hiking trail of the Espadán-Mijares Commonwealth also passes through Argelita. It includes Stage 11 from Toga to Argelita and Stage 12 from Argelita to Vallat. The routes differ in format and difficulty: length, walking time, elevation gain, technical terrain and stage character provide several independent criteria for planning your day. For an activity-focused day, you can choose between a single connection, a trail-running route and a multi-stage long-distance hiking trail.
Water spots
Along the Villahermosa as it passes through Argelita, there is a 450-metre-long bathing area divided into three sections. A natural-water swimming pool is located next to Argelita’s sports grounds. The Fuente de Sabinar is a natural spring. Fuente de la Santa Cruz (1930) is approximately a 30-minute walk from the village.
For your own daily planning, these places differ as bathing area, swimming pool and natural spring. The water spots therefore stand as independent local features alongside the hiking and trail-running routes.
Culture and history
The Iglesia Parroquial de Santa Ana dates from the 17th century and is designed in the Churrigueresque Baroque style. It still houses a relic of the Holy Cross, which was brought from Rome in 1657.
The Torre de Zei-Abu-Zeit has been restored and features an Arabic inscription from 1252. The two towers of Castillo Palacio de Ceyt Abu Ceyt were restored in 1986 and remain well preserved to this day. The church, relic, inscription and restored towers provide different historical points of reference for a visit to Argelita.
Festivals and visits
The Fiestas de la Santa Cruz in Argelita take place every year on 3 May. They include a Misa baturra with musical accompaniment, followed by the distribution of a special bread.
A reservation with the tourist information office is required to visit the museum in the Torre Redonda.
