Discover Geldo: Culture, Festivals and the Palancia

Geldo is part of the Camino del Santo Grial route and was the first municipality in the province of Castellón to signpost the route. Depending on your interests, you can focus on different aspects of the architecture, culture, festivals, art and landscape along the Palancia.

Culture and History

The Palacio de los Duques de Medinaceli dates back to the 15th century. The Palacio houses the Museo Ramón Rubio. The historic Palacio complex contains three museum rooms: one for the exhibition on Ramón Rubio, one in the former palace chapel for temporary exhibitions, and a third room for audiovisual screenings.

Guided tours are offered on Saturdays and Sundays at 12:00 noon; advance booking is required and must be made at least two working days in advance.

The Iglesia Parroquial de la Misericordia is a Baroque church built in the 17th century. It features sgraffito covering the entire dome of the presbytery and preserves a large wooden carving known as Cristo de la Luz.

Festivals, Film and Art

Titirigeldo is a children's festival held repeatedly in Geldo. The programme in Geldo's streets and squares includes circus performances, musical parades, wooden games, storytelling and concerts.

ImaginArte Geldo is an open-air mural painting festival with no prescribed style. The festival has created an open-air museum in Geldo featuring works of art in public spaces.

Documentalia is a documentary film festival held at the Palacio de los Duques de Medinaceli. Festival MICE is an international educational film showcase based in Geldo. Geldo y Acción! is a short film festival whose films are shot in Geldo.

Geldo's gastronomy, crafts and trade fair takes place in the Plaza de D. Antonio Férriz Díaz. If you would like to combine different approaches, historic spaces, sacred art, mural painting and film formats can be clearly distinguished conceptually. What matters is less a fixed order than whether you want to focus on architecture, events, art or landscape.

This results in various options for planning your day: historic spaces and sacred art sit alongside mural painting, film and recurring events. The Plaza de D. Antonio Férriz Díaz complements these cultural occasions with an event featuring gastronomy, crafts and trade. On the Palancia, the Fuente de San Gil provides a landscape setting of a different character, while travelling by road or bus highlights a separate practical aspect of choosing where to stay.

Getting There

The main road connections to Geldo are the Autovía Mudéjar A-23 and National Road 234, which connects Sagunto with Burgos. Bus routes connect Geldo with Segorbe, Sagunto and Valencia.
