A 5.6-kilometre circular route leads through the Huerta de El Esparragal and the Cantera de La Cueva to the Iglesia de La Cueva. On the way back, it runs along Calle San José to the small Ermita de San José. This creates a continuous sequence linking the landscape, paths and notable points of the village.

Nature

The SL-MU 21 Sendero de la Huerta de Monteagudo also provides paths through the surrounding area. It begins near the Azarbe de Monteagudo and continues to the Fuente de San José in La Cueva. Along the way, the trail follows huerta service roads and individual paths beside the irrigation canals. The differing routes show how closely the agriculturally shaped landscape is connected to its irrigation system, while the individual sections retain their own character.

At the Partidor de la Cueva, the Azarbe de Monteagudo divides into the Brazal Alto de la Cueva and the Brazal Bajo. This branching point is one of the named locations along the waterways. The geology of the area also bears a human history: La Cueva’s impressive rock formations were created by the historic extraction of stone. From the Iglesia de La Cueva, access to the former, abandoned quarry can be seen.

Culture

The Iglesia de La Cueva is located at Calle San José 17 in La Cueva. The route described continues along Calle San José to the small Ermita de San José. Another connection between local history and everyday life can be found at the spring: in La Cueva, a long-established spring was converted by local residents into a public washhouse. A small chapel dedicated to Saint Joseph was built above the spring.

The two washhouses were formerly used by the women of Las Lumbreras and La Cueva respectively. Thus, La Cueva is associated not only with built sites but also with their former uses. In October, festivals in honour of the Virgen del Rosario take place in La Cueva.
