Culture and History

The Church of San Juan Bautista is a medieval building from the transition between the Romanesque and Gothic periods. Its single-nave structure has a barrel vault supported by transverse arches. The portal has a pointed arch; its keystone bears a Christogram.

A house on the old road from Ostiz preserves two arches with Gothic elements. A house in Ostiz dating from the 18th century preserves parts of the structure of an older tower. Casa Iriartea is a late-medieval building with three levels of ashlar masonry. Casa Gartxotena is a large ashlar-masonry building from the beginning of the 16th century that has been extensively altered. The Molino de Ostiz on the Río Mediano corresponds to a building type from the period after the 16th century.

Trails and Landscape

In connection with the Way of St. James route, the Church of San Juan Bautista in Ostiz is considered a possible sightseeing destination. A Way of St. James route passes Ostiz along a path near the Río Ulzama, without requiring visitors to enter the village.
