Culture and History

The parish church of San Julián y Santa Basilisa is a Gothic-Renaissance brick building whose construction began in 1543. Its Romanist high altar was created in 1597 by the sculptor Bernabé Imberto and was declared an Asset of Cultural Interest (Bien de Interés Cultural) in 2003.

In the area of Resa, the Ermita de la Santa Cruz is the destination of pilgrimages on 3 May and on the first Saturday in May. The archaeological site of Resa was inhabited during the Roman period, later under Muslim rule and, most recently, as a medieval Christian defensive settlement.

Festivals and Customs

On 20 January, winter festivals are held in Andosilla in honour of San Sebastián. Andosilla's patron saint festivities in honour of the Virgen de la Cerca begin on 7 September. These patron saint festivities include an Aurora and a procession through Andosilla accompanied by jotas.

The Jota de Santa Cruz de Andosilla includes the Plaza de los Fueros, also known as Plaza del Corro. This jota is danced after the procession with the Virgen de la Cerca, the town's patron saint.

On Good Friday, Andosilla holds a living Stations of the Cross with around 30 local residents. Afterwards, visitors can visit a Hebrew market with handcrafted products.

During the 2017 celebration of San Sebastián, the local Aurosos sang an Aurora at dawn; afterwards, the procession with the image of the saint proceeded from the Virgen de la Cerca Basilica through the streets of Andosilla.

Landscape and Trails

The Saboreando Andosilla route leads to the vegetable gardens of the fertile plain between the river and the Peña de Andosilla, an area known as “El Cerrao” that is flooded during high water.
