Mutilva Baja: Río Sadar, Culture and Fiestas

Mutilva Baja is the starting point for the riverside path along the Río Sadar, which ends at the boundary with the municipality of Pamplona. The 1.5-kilometre route is considered easy, can be travelled on foot or by mountain bike, and takes approximately 25 minutes on foot. Along the river corridor, the path passes through riparian ecosystems with poplars, willows, ash trees, shrubs and a diverse vertebrate fauna.

Nature and Trails

Another route is AI01 – Abuelito, sopla y… ¡ojo!, an approximately 7-kilometre urban circular route for families that begins in front of the car park of C.P. Irulegi. The different route lengths help with comparing the options and planning the day.

Culture and History

The Aranguren Valley Cultural Centre in Mutilva hosts exhibitions of photography, painting, sculpture and ceramics throughout the year; guided tours are available for school classes and organised groups. Its cultural programme includes family theatre, musical performances, lecture series and oral storytelling.

The Aranguren Valley Public Library is located on the first floor of the cultural centre at Plaza Eguzki in Mutilva and belongs to the Government of Navarra’s public library network. The Aranipuinak project comprises five family-friendly routes with video stories that convey the place names, history, fauna, flora and elements of Navarra’s oral tradition; one of them is a route to Mutilva.

In Mutilva Baja there is a 17th-century Baroque building made of stone, erected on the site of an earlier structure and preserving its medieval typology in both plan and elevation. The building’s main altarpiece consists of reused materials as well as sculptures and paintings from different periods and styles. The building has a single-nave layout, a straight-ended apse and a square bell tower with chamfered corners.

Festivals and Local Events

The Fiestas de Mutilva are recurring five-day celebrations with concerts, children’s activities and communal meals. The Fiestas de Mutilva 2025 began on 18 June at 8 p.m. with a traditional Chupinazo from the town hall balcony, accompanied by the Comparsa of Giants and Bigheads, the Gaiteros and the Valle de Aranguren band.

The annual Día de la Comparsa de Gigantes y Cabezudos del Valle de Aranguren takes place in Plaza Mutiloa in Mutilva; visitors can enjoy a Chistorrada there.

Leisure and Getting There

Municipal sports facilities include a frontón in Mutilva Baja and skate parks in Mutilva. Mutilva can be reached by regional public transport. The Aranguren Valley can be accessed directly from Pamplona, including via the Ronda Este.
