Culture

The Church of Nuestra Señora de los Abades is a Gothic-Renaissance building constructed from 1581 onwards. Its monumental main altarpiece dates from 1660 to 1670, while its sculptures retain their original polychromy. The Casa de los Carrillo was built in 1684 on the orders of Field Marshal Don Joseph García de Salcedo.

The Basilica of Nuestra Señora del Patrocinio has been documented since the mid-17th century and is considered an exceptional example of Navarrese Baroque architecture. The Atalaya de Milagro was built in 1098 as a fortified lookout post; the surviving remains of the old castle are located on a steep slope approximately 60 metres high above the Aragón River. The restored surroundings of the castle are considered a tourist attraction and combine researched and documented history, biodiversity and the town's historical heritage.

Next to the historic Ermita del Patrocinio, a Cruz de Caravaca was erected as a waymarker on the Camino de la Vera Cruz. Seven scenes illustrate the Passion, death and Resurrection of Christ in Milagro; in 2021, the Government of Navarre recognised this depiction as an Asociación de Interés Cultural. An annual performance of this depiction is scheduled for Maundy Thursday by the Asociación Paso Viviente. It is accompanied by the Asociación de Tambores y Bombos de Milagro, which contributes to the atmosphere of the performance.

Milagro's patron saint festivities in honour of San Blas last nine days and take place between the last week of August and the first week of September.

Nature and Trails

Opposite the church is a viewpoint offering a wide panorama of the Aragón's confluence with the Ebro. Stage 19 from San Adrián to Milagro reaches the town via the Cañada Real, between cultivated fields and parallel to an irrigation channel.

The La Peña de Milagro hiking trail begins next to the parish church and passes the ruins of Milagro Castle, a reforested pine forest, fields and vineyards. The marked trail is 3.7 kilometres long, has a cumulative elevation gain of 100 metres and follows an easy circular route.

Festivals and Cuisine

The Fiesta de la Cereza de Milagro takes place every year around the second or third weekend of June. Its programme includes dessert competitions, a craft fair and a cherry tasting. To protect the product, Milagro cherries are harvested by hand when they have reached the optimum degree of ripeness.

The Aragón River near Milagro is home to, among others, barbel, carp, catfish, bleak and pike.
